Q. What is strategic sourcing?
A. Strategic sourcing enables buyers and suppliers to connect and contract quickly and efficiently. It is the process of reengineering a company's supply base to reduce cost and gain other competitive advantages, such as: improving quality, reducing lead time, accessing leading edge technology or design, improving delivery and ensuring availability when supply is scarce.

Q. What is the difference between e-Sourcing and e-procurement?
A. e-Sourcing is that part of the strategic sourcing process that can be automated and implemented online to create greater efficiencies. E-Sourcing powers those elements specifically related to the actual strategic sourcing, such as creating a complex eRFQ, negotiating terms online, automatically tabulating bidding results using weighted scoring, etc. The key to effective e-Sourcing is being able to implement complex structured negotiations online. Benefits from strategic sourcing are greater than transaction procurement activities and yield tangible savings.

E-procurement adds online efficiency to the procurement process or repetitive administrative tasks and is generally related to actual purchasing day to day organizational transactions, such as facilitating the requisition of goods and services and processing supplier invoices, enforcing compliance to a list of approved suppliers to minimize maverick buys. E-procurement also helps track corporate spending to help realize savings from strategic sourcing.

Q. What are the benefits of sourcing goods and services online?
A.

E-Sourcing offers buyers a variety of strategic advantages:

  • Increases supplier competition to lower purchasing costs by as much as 20 percent
  • Creates closer collaboration with key suppliers
  • Gives you global reach so you can broaden your pool of qualified suppliers
  • Shortens sourcing time by as much as 30 percent
  • Reduces time-to-market cycles 25-30 percent
  • Streamlines administration and reduces costs for processing overhead
  • Facilitates more predictable pricing
  • Aids in improved supplier measurement

Q. How can I be sure that e-Sourcing will fit my strategic sourcing requirements?
A. Moai's CompleteSource e-Sourcing solution is fully customizable and has already been applied to meet the needs of a wide variety of vertical industries. The eRFQ wizard allows customers to define any type of material or service, since the multiline/mutliparameter bidding model can be used to define any level of complexity and any terms necessary, such as quality levels, delivery terms, quantity discounts - any parameters that are reflected in complex bidding or negotiations. In fact, CompleteSource is so versatile it allows supply chain and purchasing managers to emulate their existing business processes online. CompleteSource brings your business processes to the Internet, rather than forcing you to change the way you do business to accommodate B2B e-commerce.

Q. If I'm not sure how to incorporate e-Sourcing into my business, can Moai help?
A. Moai has domain expertise that customers can tap through our Technical Implementation Services team. Moai Technical Implementation Services provides consulting that has already helped many companies implement e-Sourcing. Moai's Technical Implementation Services team can assist with services such as detailed analysis and optimization of corporate-wide spending; identification and qualification of new suppliers; developing e-Sourcing strategies including creating eRFQ's, defining stages and parameters of negotiation, and weighting parameters for decision support; and comprehensive service options for hosting, training, and event administration. Moai will help you leverage e-Sourcing to meet your business goals.

Q. Can I see the value of Moai's solution before I commit to e-Sourcing?
A. Yes. Moai has two opportunities to realize the value of our solutions. With the Moai RapidSource program, expert consultants will review your operational processes in pre-selected commodity categories and develop a “Best-Case Scenario” Operational State including immediate savings realistically attainable in 30 days. This program includes up to 2 complimentary reverse auction events for those pre-selected commodities.

The CompleteSource QuickStart program is a high-yield, low-risk pilot program to prove the value of e-Sourcing. CompleteSource QuickStart provides customers with a fixed-fee engagement over 30 days where customers can create their own, customized e-Sourcing events so they can see immediate results from e-Sourcing.

Once they have seen the return on investment from e-Sourcing, customers can choose to have Moai continue to host their
e-Sourcing program, or they can license CompleteSource Enterprise to extend their existing supply chain strategy.

Q. What is multi-stage bidding?
A. Moai's Sourcing Management solutions provide buyers with the ability to negotiate with suppliers in more than one stage. This capability is a powerful and time saving tool for "Supplier Qualification" in sourcing. Companies can quickly narrow down the list of qualified suppliers by filtering out those who do not meet basic criteria. In each stage, the buyer negotiates one-to-one with suppliers on the various terms in a multi-stage negotiation and key negotiation terms are documented for future reference. Each stage can contain a variety of parameters for negotiation and both the buyer and his suppliers can include specification documents, drawings, and other attachments using the document management tool.

Q. Who is considered a buyer on the Moai service?
A. Contract Management is a business-to-business service. Our buyers are purchasing managers and material decision makers representing purchasing organizations. You are considered a buyer if you are purchasing items using our supply chain solutions or submitting a request for proposal.

Q. Who is considered a supplier on the Moai service?
A. Contract Management is a business-to-business service. Our suppliers are interested in reaching purchasing and materiel decision makers. You are considered a supplier if you make your products available to buyers through our supply chain solutions.

Q. What is the Buyer/Supplier Directory?
A. This is a function of the Contract Management module that provides both purchasing organizations and supplier organizations with an organized, detailed list of their partner organizations and system users. This comprehensive tool establishes the unique user functionality of each buyer. The Directory tool contains important information about each buyer and supplier organization, and in turn automates the process of assigning access control into the system.

Q. Why should suppliers participate in e-Sourcing?
A. E-Sourcing benefits both suppliers and buyers. E-Sourcing allows buyers and suppliers to collaborate more effectively, allowing suppliers to compete more aggressively and share critical information with buyers that can affect the outcome of a bid, such as strategic drawings and supporting contracts. By collaborating online, buyers and suppliers can quickly reach mutually agreeable sourcing terms, forging closer working relationships and implementing the next best thing to "just-in-time" inventory and manufacturing.
